Background of SICM: South India Christian Mission was started in 1994, initially as a personal and family "experiment" when its founder, Dr. Richard Ingle, decided to take a few young, dedicated Indian preachers under wing and encourage them in ministry. The experiment proved hugely successful as evangelistic outreach in India, and later also in Sri Lanka, blossomed.
South India Christian Mission (SICM) is a 501-c-3 non-profit organization with overseeing board in the USA and operates via a non-profit trust in India, under government FCRA regulations and with in-country administrative trustees there. South India Christian Mission has the benefit of guidance and oversight by seasoned Christian leaders in both the USA and in India. The board in the USA is an advisory entity of volunteers, whose main function is to advise, prioritize needs, set goals, and help provide funds. Managing trustees in India are national preachers and church leaders who provide regional inputs on goals, needs, and priorities and work with the leadership team to prioritize those needs at the top level for optimizing impact for the Kingdom.
This formula with volunteer oversight and encouragement by Christian leaders in the USA has resulted in a very productive program of evangelism, preacher training, church planting, meeting social needs (medical, orphans, children, widows) - and all with almost 100% of the gifts going directly to the field in India. Net result: The same money that, in historic approaches to foreign missions, would have provided support for only one foreign missionary family and mission overhead, instead supports about 70 national evangelists and churches in various degrees from part time to full time, as needed. In addition, more than 150 additional preachers and leaders are receiving training, equipping and encouragement without requiring on-going external monthly financial support. This is, of course, the ultimate goal of church planting.
Key ministry areas for South India Christian Mission include: evangelism, preacher training, church planting, meeting social needs (medical, orphans, children, widows). Please see "Ministry Areas" pull-down menu for a slide show on each of these mission areas.
